From IA Magazine, learn about the seven findings from the 2022 Agent Universe Study.
When is a Smaller Agency Worth More Than a Larger Agency?
Agency acquisitions and mergers continue to heat up, your agency value may be more complex than you think. Revenue and commissions are not the prime indicator of value for an agency – Profit potential determines a business’s value, not size.
ACORD Form Access Now Limited
Most agents have historically accessed ACORD forms via their agency management systems or other ACORD-authorized third-party forms redistributors. This changed on January 1, 2020, when ACORD began charging all users of ACORD forms an End User License (EUL) fee. The Big ‘I’ has negotiated an agreement with ACORD allowing most Big 'I' members to continue receiving ACORD forms without having to pay the EUL.
Back to Basics - What is a Personal Umbrella Policy?
Your insureds usually know they need auto and homeowners insurance policies, or if they have recreational vehicles or a motorcycle, may need a policy on those. But do your insureds understand that the limits of liability coverage they purchase, even if they seem substantial, may not be enough to protect them in the event of a serious accident? The personal umbrella policy can protect your insured against large losses and protect your agency against an errors and omissions claim, as well.
The PAP and Additional Insureds
Some employers of people who use their personal autos for business want to be named as additional insureds on their personal auto policies (PAPs). However, many companies refuse to do this on the basis that they don't want the broader exposure or that the business owner has no insurable interest. Actually, there's no need to name the business as an AI on the PAP, although there could be a need for a PAP endorsement similar to a "do nothing" endorsement in the business auto program.
Is a Person an Animal?
The PAP defines "collision" to involve impact of an insured auto with another auto or object. Comprehensive, or "other than collision" (OTC) coverage applies to contact with a bird or animal. So, if you hit a pedestrian, is it a comprehensive or a collision loss?
New Tune: Understanding ISO’s Recent Changes to the PAP
From IA Magazine, read about the 30 changes the Insurance Services Office (ISO) filed to its personal auto policy program.
Contractual Risk Transfer Can Take Over and Ruin Your Day
Contractual risk transfer is a fact of life for any agent working with construction clients. Your client might be the transferor or the transferee or both on the same job. Because insurance is a slave to the contract, you have to understand contractual risk transfer.
The Anatomy of a Hold Harmless and Indemnity Agreement
Although we know that interpreting contracts is a matter of law, because our customers routinely execute hold harmless and indemnity agreements with all manner of entities, knowledge of these contractual provisions is of primary importance. It is important that you have insight to help you better understand the workings of these agreement and how your customer’s CGL policy may or may not provide coverage for the liability created by such agreements.
Earth Movement Exclusions for the CGL – Dangerous in the Wrong Hands
Insurance Services Office (ISO) has introduced four new earth movement exclusions with effective dates of 12/1/19. Three are designed for use with the commercial general liability (CGL) coverage parts; and one is for use with the owners and contractors protective liability (OCP) coverage part. These are extremely dangerous endorsements if used improperly.
